Zusammenfassung

Es ist in den letzten Jahrzehnten, vorzüglich im deutschsprachigen Bereich, Mode geworden, von einem „Niedergang der Systematik“zu sprechen; auch in der Berichtszeit hat sich Buxbaum (1) wieder über dieses Thema verbreitet. Für die Anhänger dieser Meinung und für all jene, die das Fach zumindest als antiquiert, obsolet, „einzementiert“, betrachten, empfiehlt sich die Lektüre einiger Artikel, die zum Goldenen Jubiläum der Botanical Society of America erschienen sind (Constance; Eames; Levis; Rollins). Einen breiteren Querschnitt durch die gesamten Gebiete, die heute von der Systematik betreut und umgekehrt für sie herangezogen werden, bietet der Sammelband zur Linne-Feier „Systematics of today“[Hedberg (1)].
