Résumé
L’histoire de l’anatomie pathologique de la poliomyélite est dominée par les noms de Heine, de Medin et d’Ivar Wickman. Quand il décrivit la maladie, Heine ne disposait d’aucune observation anatomique personnelle. Il invoquait une observation de Bicètre, prise par Hutin en 1825 et où on voyait une atrophie de la moelle. Il affirma qu’il s’agissait d’une affection à caractère irritatif et congestif et sa conviction resta si ferme que vingt ans plus tard, tout en ne disposant pas encore de documents anatomiques qui fassent leur preuve, il appela la maladie „Spinale Kinderlähmung“.
