Résumé
Un assez grand nombre de plantes ont la propriété d’émettre de l’acide cyanhydrique dans diverses conditions, par exemple par le simple broyage de certains de leurs organes. Il n’a jamais pu encore être apporté une preuve décisive de la présence d’acide cyanhydrique libre dans aucune de ces plantes; par contre, de certaines, il a pu être isolé à l’état cristallisé des principes capables de libérer de l’acide cyanhydrique. Tous les principes cyanogénétiques, obtenus à l’état pur jusqu’à présent, ont été reconnus comme étant des hétérosides, c’est-à-dire des composés dans la constitution desquels il entre un sucre, en plus de l’acide cyanhydrique et d’une troisième substance dont la nature est variable.
