Zusammenfassung
Kohlenhydrate sind in den Pflanzen, in denen die Arbeitsteilung zwischen den Organen einen Transport über kleinere oder größere Entfernungen erfordert, die in größter Menge transportierten Stoffe. Seit Malpighi (1686) über einer Stelle, an der er ein ringförmiges Rindenstück entfernt hatte, ein stärkeres Wachstum sah, ist der Ringelungsversuch immer wieder zur Feststellung der Bahnen des Stofftransportes angewendet worden (vgl. die historischen Darstellungen bei Möbius 1907 und Münch 1930). Bis in die neueste Zeit wurde so die Wirkung eines oder mehrerer Ringelschnitte auf das Wachstum beobachtet und dabei immer wieder bestätigt, daß zur Versorgung von nicht assimilierenden Teilen eine Rindenverbindung mit einem assimilierenden oder genügend Reservestoffe enthaltenden Gewebe notwendig ist (Curtis 1920a, b, 1925, 1935; Münch 1930); auch eine Rindenbrücke nach Entfernung des Xylems genügt dafür. Ringelungsexperimente sind aber in ihrem Wert allgemein dadurch beeinträchtigt, daß sie einen operativen Eingriff voraussetzen, der zu schwer kontrollierbaren Veränderungen der natürlichen Verhältnisse führen kann; auch lassen sich Wachstumseffekte, die bei ihnen auftreten, nicht ohne weiteres mit dem Transport bestimmter Stoffe (Kohlenhydrate, andere Assimilate, Hormone usw.) in Verbindung bringen.
