Zusammenfassung
Der Wasserhaushalt einer Pflanze kann im Laufe einer parasitären Erkrankung wesentlich gestört werden. Am auffälligsten tritt dies bei den sog. Welkekrankheiten zutage. Unter dieser Bezeichnung faßt die Pflanzenpathologie eine Anzahl Infektionskrankheiten zusammen, deren Verlauf und Symptome auf den ersten Blick an das Welken infolge Wassermangels erinnern; das gesamte Laubwerk einer befallenen Pflanze kann in kürzester Zeit verdorren und absterben. Die hier in Frage kommenden Erreger (vor allem Pilze, daneben auch Bakterien) besiedeln in vielen Fällen die Wasserleitungsbahnen des Stengels (Tracheomykosen), üben aber ihre auffälligsten Wirkungen auf die Blätter, also die nicht direkt befallenen Pflanzenteile aus; von dem mehr oder weniger begrenzten Krankheitsherd gehen Fernwirkungen aus.
