Zusammenfassung

An den Anfang seien die in den letzten Jahren in mehreren Ländern wieder lebhafter geführten Diskussionen über den Artbegriff und die Notwendigkeit einer Reform der den Floren zugrunde gelegten Systeme gestellt. Die Notwendigkeit einer Neubewertung verschiedener Kategorien von Taxa, wie der Polyploiden, Apogameten und Hybridogenen und besonders einer stärkeren Berücksichtigung der Cytotaxonomie wird allgemein empfunden. Für Einzelheiten sei auf die beim Pariser Botanikerkongreß besonders in den Sektionen 4, 9 und 10 gehaltenen Referate und viele Beiträge in „Taxon“ verwiesen. In Nordeuropa und Nordamerika wird der Cytotaxonomie schon länger höhere Beachtung geschenkt als in den meisten übrigen Ländern. Besonders lehrreich sind die 27 bei der 1954 in der Botanischen Gesellschaft der Britischen Inseln zum Thema „Der Artbegriff in Beziehung zur britischen Flora“ gehaltenen und von Lousley (1955) veröffentlichten Vorträge, wie die von J. Heslop-harrison über den „Konflikt der Kategorien“, von Gilmour über experimentelle Taxonomie und Turrill über die Aussichten einer „synthetischen Taxonomie“.
