Zusammenfassung

Vor bald 100 Jahren (1859) soll Wilks die Ansicht geäußert haben, daß der Ausdruck ,,Dysenterie“ nicht für alle Formen von ulcerösen Dickdarmerkrankungen gebraucht werden könne (428), und 1875 hat er zusammen mit Moxon(508) in Vorlesungen über pathologische Anatomie auf die einfache Colitis ulcerosa hingewiesen, die sich von den altbekannten, bösartigen Dysenterien unterscheide. Viele Jahre später erschienen dann einzelne klinische Beiträge (Allchin 1885, White 1888 und 1895) auch im deutschen Sprachgebiet (Boas 1903, Rosenheim 1908, Adolf Schmidt 1914). Durch die grundlegenden Schriften von Bargen wurden aber besonders die angloamerikanischen Forscher angeregt, so daß sich in jenem Kreis die Literatur über Colitis ulcerosa in den vergangenen 20 Jahren beträchtlich vermehrt hat.
