Der „Grundriß der Botanik“ von O. Stocker enthält auf 53 von 255 Seiten die beste, kurze Einführung in die ökologische Botanik in deutscher Sprache. Daß diese Wissenschaft gerade für Forstleute, auch die Praktiker, von Bedeutung ist, ersieht man aus der „Forstökologie“ von F. Hartmann-Wien (Zustandserfassung und standortsgemäße Gestaltung der Lebensgrundlagen des Waldes). Die Ausführung im Einzelfall zeigt z. B. die von Forstdirektor V. Moosmayer herausgegebene Gemeinschaftsarbeit, die in eingehender Darstellung die natürlichen Gegebenheiten, die Geschichte und die aus beiden abzuleitende Waldwirtschaft in einem Altmoränengebiet des Alpenvorlandes vorführt.
