Ergebnisse 25jähriger klinisch-chirurgischer Krebsbekämpfung

(Zugleich ein Beitrag zur klinischen Statistik des Krebses)

Zusammenfassung

Im Vorkriegsdeutschland starben jährlich 135000 Menschen an Krebs. Nach den Herz- und Gefäßerkrankungen ist der Krebstod an die zweite Stelle der Todesursachen getreten. Verglichen mit früheren Zahlenangaben scheint dies für eine echte Zunahme zu sprechen. Eine objektiv-kritische Auswertung der Erhebungen in allen Kulturländern ergibt jedoch nach Auffassung der weitaus überwiegenden Mehrzahl aller Statistiker, die sich eingehender mit der Erkrankung befaßt haben, daß diese Zunahme nur eine relative ist. Unter Berücksichtigung der verbesserten Diagnostik — Lubarsc errechnet 1924 ungefähr ein Drittel Fehldiagnosen bei Krebs innerer Organe, B ahls gibt 1934 nur noch 4,7% an, was die oberste günstigste Grenze darstellt, — und unter Miteinrechnung einer Lebenserwartung Neugeborener auf 60 Jahre, nach 1 jähriger Lebensdauer sogar auf 65 Jahre (Hebenstreit) sowie einer um 40% stärkeren, kriegsbedingten Besetzung der krebsgefährdeten Altersklassen, schwächt sich das scheinbar große Plus der Krankheit ab. Entspricht nun der relativen Zunahme auch eine parallel laufende Entwicklung der Krebsbekämpfung, d. h. eine Steigerung der erzielten Heilerfolge?
