Zusammenfassung

Unter einer Myokarditis wird ein sich herdförmig oder diffus im Herzmuskel ausbreitender, akut oder chronisch-rezidivierend verlaufender Entzündungsprozeß verstanden, der durch direkte oder indirekte Einwirkung von Erregern, von toxischen, chemischen oder physikalischen Agenzien oder bisher nicht verstandenen und somit unbekannten Ursachen hervorgerufen wird. Die Mehrzahl aller Myokarditiden verläuft klinisch inapperent. Dies gilt besonders für virusinduzierte Myokarditiden, die nach dem Rückgang bakteriell verursachter Infektionskrankheiten den Hauptanteil aller Myokarditiden ausmachen. Obwohl zahlreiche kardiotrope Viren als Erreger prinzipiell in Betracht kommen, stehen aufgrund epidemiologischer Untersuchungen Enteroviren (RNA-Viren), speziell Coxsackie-Viren der Gruppe B (CBV), als auslösendes Agens an erster Stelle.
