Abstract

In a recent note (1), a proposal has been made for an alternative approach in describing the ion exchange adsorption of alkylammonium ions in ion exchangers. This approach is based upon the concept of an enhanced thermodynamic stability of the ammonium ions in the ion exchanger phase and is entirely similar to the one used in the thermodynamic characterization of ion-exchanged metal-uncharged ligand complexes (2).
