Zusammenfassung

Ausgehend von einer Dreiteilung der Geschichte der Ökonometrie (Vor-Cowles-Commission-Zeit, Zeit der Prägung durch die Cowles-Commission und die ca. 1970 beginnende Neuzeit) findet eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Entwicklung dieser Wissenschaft statt. Gezeigt wird auch, wie die Ökonometrie auf viele Herausforderungen mit sinnvollen methodischen Neuentwicklungen reagiert hat. Wenn sich auch die ursprünglich in die Ökonometrie gesetzten Hoffnungen bei weitem nicht erfüllt haben, so bietet sie heute doch ein umfangreiches Instrumentarium für die empirische Ökonomie.
