Die malignen Tumoren des Ösophagus, des Magens, des Rektums und des Kolons haben eine vergleichbare Sonomorphologie (s. Übersicht). Die Kriterien für die Diagnose und die Bestimmung des T-Stadiums im Rahmen des Stagings sind deshalb weitgehend identisch (Schema 30).
