Zusammenfassung
Natürliche Porphyrine weisen eine ausgeprägte Fluoreszenz im roten Spektralbereich auf. Die Emissionsmaxima sind einerseits vom umgebenden Medium abhängig, andererseits sind die verschiedenen Porphyrine durch unterschiedliche Fluoreszenzpeaks charakterisiert. Neben der Emission von Fluoreszenzlicht können bei Bestrahlung photochemische Prozesse durch Porphyrine ausgelöst werden. Eine photodynamische Inaktivierung gram-negativer Bakterien nach Inkubation mit exogen applizierten Porphyrinen wird nur bei gleichzeitiger Gabe eines Zellwand-verändernden Antibiotikums beobachtet (NITZAN et al.). Eine andere Möglichkeit, den Gehalt an Porphyrinen in gram-negativen Bakterien zu erhöhen, besteht durch die Inkubation mit δ-Aminolaevulinsäure (ALA), einer Vorstufe der Porphyrinbiosynthese (DOSS und PHILIPP-DORMSTON).
