Zusammenfassung
Die möglichst genaue Kenntnis der Dosiswirkungsbeziehung im Bereich niedriger Strahlendosen (0 – 20 cGy) ist von besonderer Bedeutung für die Abfassung von Strahlenschutzrichtlinien. Dies gilt für die Kernkraftindustrie sowie für das Personal in der Röntgen- und Nuklearmedizin, aber auch für die einer möglichen Bestrahlung ausgesetzten Bevölkerung. Die Befunde bei der medizinisch-statistischen Überwachung von ursprünglich ca. 91000 Überlebenden der Atombombenexplosionen in Hiroshima und Nagasaki haben hierbei eine wichtige Rolle gespielt. Die heutigen nationalen und internationalen Strahlenschutzrichtlinien stützen sich noch immer hauptsächlich auf die bis Mitte der 70er Jahre bei mittleren und hohen Dosen eindeutig beobachteten kanzerogenen Strahleneffekte [24]. Bis dahin wurden nämlich bei Überlebenden, die in größerem Abstand vom Hypozentrum nur niedrigen Bestrahlungsdosen unter ca. 50 cGy ausgesetzt waren, keine Zunahme von Krebstodesfällen registriert. Die offiziellen Risikoabschätzungen [1,9,29] für niedrige Dosen beruhen daher auf angenommenen Extrapolationsfunktionen (linear, quadratisch oder kombiniert), denen unterschiedliche Arbeitshypothesen zugrunde hegen. Diese Annahmen stützen sich zwar auf strahlenbiologische Tierexperimente, nicht aber auf langfristige epidemiologische Befunde bei mit kleinen Dosen bestrahlten Bevölkerungsgruppen.
