Abstract
biochemical tests for the assessment of thyroid function and the monitoring of treatment of patients with thyrometabolie disorders. At the same time considerable controversy has arisen concerning both the validity of some tests and which of the various combinations of tests is the most effective in each clinical situation (1). Several decision support systems (DSS) for the assessment of thyroid function have been developed, partly in response to the above situation and partly in an effort to overcome the growing problem of information overload within laboratory medicine (2,3,4,5,6). These and several other systems have been used successfully at their site of origin. Few have been transported to other sites.
