Zusammenfassung

(Psycho-)physiologische Forschung wird in der Psychiatrie seit etwa 100 Jahren betrieben. Eine der damit verbundenen Hoffnungen ist, daß sie zur Validierung nosologischer oder syndromaler Kategorien der psychiatrischen Krankheitslehre beitragen könne. Inwieweit dies für die alte Frage der Beziehung von Angst und Depression gelungen ist, soll die folgende Übersicht zeigen. Sie wird eingeleitet von den psychophysiologischen Befunden einer eigenen Untersuchung an primär depressiven Patienten, die mit einer Gruppe Gesunder verglichen wurden. Diese Ergebnisse werden dann anhand anderer Studien auf ihre Generalisierbarkeit für depressive Erkrankungen überprüft und, in einem dritten Teil, Befunden an Angstkranken gegenübergestellt.
