An Approach to Evaluation of Number, Duration and Cost of the Disability Pensions Granted for Rheumatic Diseases
Computers have been used in many ways in rheumatology for out-patient curative and preventive care. In a paper of Zvárová, Dostál, Veselý (1984) the differential diagnostic process between four classes of rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatic fever) and healthy controls is described. Diagnostic decision-making is done in the frame of a probability decision model and the features examined were selected according to medical knowledge and experience considering relevance to the typical initial stage of disease development. The susceptibility of an individual to a specific disease is connected with the immunogenetic background. In the paper of Dostál, Zvárová et al. (1985) such a study for rheumatic diseases is described. Most rheumatic diseases exist for a long time without threatening life, however, they often lead to working disability.
