Canada’s New Management Information System Guidelines
In Canada, the longstanding concern for the development of standards and maintenance of solid management tools in the health care field has, until recently, mainly concentrated on accounting standards as provided in the various editions of the Canadian Hospital Accounting Manual. In the last decade, the “Information Revolution” has focused attention on the problems and possibilities of national cooperation on health care issues, particularly good management of resources. The time came to find, develop, and document tools that would go beyond accounting standards and that would, therefore, help any size or type of health care facility manage its resources more effectively and make useful contributions to the ongoing national dialogue on health care.
