M-Stef I A Microcomputer Network-Based Clinical Support System
since 1981 more than 4.000 patient per year have been dealt with STEFI(based on standardized features and information of medicine), wich is a comprehensive in-and outpatient interactive medical record system in standalone hardware environmait. Analysing the experiences) the advanteges and drawbacks of STEFI operation have been planned the M-STEFI system. Its hardware environment is a two-level bus topology local area network, in wich the higher level is the hospital bus, the lower one is the working office subnetwork, wich contains a file server and some (max.8.) working stations. M-STEFI has a user friendly, fast and convenient interaction between medical doctors and computer system via a menu technique (u- sing memory disk and a self study process to reduce access time to the menu-descript ion file). Important is the code independent from the menu-descpiption file, so the M-STEFI system is capable to include any code system (SNOMED, WHO-ICT or auy special code). Its modularity and flexibility are resulted from the data inde-pendence, the portability from PASCAL implementation. The extension of menu-description file concept makes possible the parameterised description of relatively simple algebraic or logic algorythms and warnings, wich can be altered without modification of the program. M-STEFI’s standardized data are encoded but the retrieved data are free-text like. This highly structured data are suitable for real-time processing in standalone or in connected environment via the LAN and can be stored in a database. Our future plan is to create the logical and physical connection between M-STEFI and our pilot expert system.
