Zusammenfassung
Es braucht nicht viel Phantasie, um zu verstehen, daß der Verlust einer Gliedmaße ein tiefes emotionales Trauma verursacht. Abgesehen von den offensichtlichen Schwierigkeiten mit Bewegungen und Körperpflege erfordert die Störung des Körperbildes eine starke emotionale Umstellung. Der Kummer nach dem Verlust einer Gliedmaße wurde sehr überzeugend mit der Trauer über den Verlust eines Ehegatten verglichen, wobei die einzelnen — gegeneinander abgrenzbaren — Phasen der Schmerzbewältigung vielfach ähnlich sind (Parkes 1972, 1975).
