Correction of Spelling Errors in Medical Records in a Free-Text-Coding-System of Pathology

Abstract

Spelling errors cannot be completely avoided during data acquisition for free-text-coding-systems. It is possible to classify these errors into different classes. In relation to these classes the possibilities to correct spelling errors are analysed. The method of correction depends on the complexity of the error. The errors can be corrected during data acquisation if search- and storage-techniques are used fitted to these error classes.
