Abstract
The control of thalassemia, a genetic disease, depends upon preventive and therapeutic programs, that are planned at Regional level and carried out by a large number of autonomous health services. On this structure, a specialized hierarchic Information System was designed, as a part of the whole Health Information System now under development in Italy.
No specific I.S. for thalassemia was available before, so that the design was planned following a preliminary study to obtain a reference framework and to identify precise objectives.
