Angular Momentum and Rotational Wavefunctions

Abstract

Several topics related to the subject of angular momentum are discussed in this appendix. In particular, it is pointed out that considerable insight into the transformation properties of rotational wavefunctions can be gained by writing them in terms of the elements of the direction-cosine matrix. These results are utilized in Chapter 2, where we consider the symmetry properties of rigid molecules. The ideas presented here are based upon some remarks of Louck [7] and Louck and Galbraith [17], together with Judd’s double-tensor formalism [11]. This approach has also recently been developed by Hilico et al. [14] and by Pascaud [15].
