Summary
A universal and economical information system is described which is adapted to the special needs of a cancer registry.
The system is used to collect, store, retrieve, evaluate and present data under epidemiological aspects, It was jointly developed by the German Cancer Research Center (Heidelberg), the Oncological Center Heidelberg-Mannheim and the Maria-Sklodovska-Memorial Institute of Oncology (Warsaw).
The system is implemented on a small PDP11/34 computer. The software was developed using MUMPS and the dialog and generator system KRAZTUR. The design of the system was chosen to be compatible with general cancer registry forms and to correspond to the recommendations of the WHO, For easy implementation, we made full use of the data storage facilities of MUMPS.
