The Effect of Intramolecular Modes

Abstract

In chapter 3 we derived general rate expressions for elementary condensed phase (multiphonon) chemical processes. Our point of departure was first order perturbation theory, corresponding to the electronically nonadiabatic limit, and we obtained explicity rate equations essentially for a two-level system (initial and final electronic state) and the harmonic approximation. Moreover, we analyzed the general features of low- and high-temperature behaviour of the nuclear modes, and we finally discussed several different kinds of experimental data to the extent that they illustrate the fundamental conclusions drawn from the theory.
