System Simulation and Cybernetics Affirm Potential of Low Cost Solar Power

Abstract

PECAN (Photovoltaic Energy Conversion ANalysis) is a highly interactive system of integrated APL functions for evaluating the potential of terrestrial solar energy. Specifically, the system is a deterministic simulator, which translates present and future manufacturing technology parameters into economic and financial terms, using the production unit concept.

Using the PECAN system, photovoltaic technology options are being formulated which must achieve United States national energy capacity cost objectives of $2.00/WE peak by 1980 and $0.50/WE peak by 1986.
