The Structural Criteria of Social System Maturity

  • A. J. Matejko

The qualitative growth of social systems may be evaluated in terms of their ability to solve dilemmas inside and outside their boundaries. Adaptation versus subordination, integration versus ossification, coordination versus suppression of the local initiative, continuation of the identity versus development, all these dilemmas are constantly faced by social systems and solved in one or another way. This paper deals with criteria of system ‘maturity’ and with one of the possible ways to measure it for the purpose of evaluation.
