Belgium is one of the countries with a parallel-offer to the population of general practice and specialistic care, without obligatory referral to one another. Our two year investigation about the possibilities to centralise all medical data around the patients links up with the fact that one may expect that the use of similar registration systems by the GP and the specialist can prevent a little bit the problems of information gap, double-use or even loss of medical data.
