Summary
The plaque formation of spleen cells of mice intravenously immunized with sheep erythrocytes was measured after intraperitoneal or intramuscular inoculation of Ehrlich ascites tumor cells.
There was no change in the number of nucleated cells and of the weight of spleens after ascites formation, while the amount of plaque-forming cells was distinctively diminished, thus showing a depression of the primary immune response. Animals bearing solid tumors were characterized by splenic enlargement probably due to localized tumor necrosis. The number of plaque-forming cells did not exceed those of the controls.
