Immunologisch kompetente Milzzellen nach primärer und sekundärer antigener Stimulierung unter dem Einfluß von adjuvanten und immunsuppressiven Stoffen

Immunologically Competent Spleen Cells after Primary and Secondary Antigenic Stimulation under the Influence of Adjuvant and Immunosuppressive Substances

Summary

As compared to the immunization only with sheep erythrocytes, the injection of this antigen in combination with killed cells of Bordetella pertussis causes an accelerated and prolonged multiplication of antibody-forming spleen cells in mice. Furthermore it was found that the bacterial adjuvant significantly increased the process of priming for the secondary response. When the primary immune response of mice to sheep erythrocytes was depressed by treatment with cyclophosphamide, the spleens of cyclophosphamide-treated mice con¬tained only 5% of the numbers of antibody-forming spleen cells found in the corresponding controls. In spite of this a typical secondary response was provoked by a booster injection given 43 days after the primary immunization. Thus it may be suggested that memory cells can develop without being engaged in antibody production.
