Zusammenfassung

Die Ausscheidung oder Retention von Wasser und Festsubstanzen durch die Niere ist ein Teil der allgemeinen Flüssigkeitsund Elektrolytbilanz des Organismus. Zwischen Zufuhr und Ausscheidung dieser Stoffe ist aber die Gesamtheit des lebenden Organismus eingeordnet. Es hat sich für unsere physiologische und klinische Betrachtung als zweckmäßig erwiesen, den Wasser- und Elektrolytstoffwechsel des Menschen vereinfachend als zweiphasisches Flüssigkeitssystem von Zellen und extracellulärer Flüssigkeit zusammen mit den wichtigsten Bilanzorganen, Darmtrakt und Niere, aufzufassen. Diese Organe sind über das Blutgefäßsystem an die extracelluläre Flüssigkeitsphase angeschlossen und wirken durch die von ihnen hervorgerufenen Volumen- und Konzentrationsänderungen unmittelbar auf das lebende Substrat, nämlich auf die Körperzellen, ein.
