Abstract

In accepting Professor Weichardt’s invitation to prepare a review of the recent literature upon the subject of specific sensitiveness, I have come to the conclusion that the most profitable plan will be to limit the inquiry to the subject of the allergic diseases and to make reference to the experimental condition of the lower animals known as anaphylaxis only by way of comparison or contrast. Detailed consideration of anaphylaxis, moreover, has been made wholly unnecessary by the thoroughness of the admirable series of monographs by Robert Doerr.
