Abstract

(1) Introduction. The relation between chemical structure and pharmacological action is a subject of notorious difficulty. It may be said that there are scarcely any general rules discernible and that every cell-drug system appears to be a law unto itself. In the case of drugs which have sharply specific actions, it is common to find that the activity even of optical isomers differs widely, but on the other hand, drugs of widely different structure may have a similar action.
