Zusammenfassung

Wie kein anderes Organ des menschlichen Körpers ist der Wurmfortsatz Gegenstand klinischer und pathologischer Untersuchung geworden. Trotz zahlreichster Arbeiten jedoch, die über ihn im Laufe der Jahre erschienen sind, können die vorliegenden Untersuchungsergebnisse noch immer nicht als abgeschlossen gelten. Vielmehr finden sich stets neue Fragen, die der Klärung bedürfen und eine genaue weitere Erforschung dieses kleinen Organs notwendig machen. Dazu gehört insbesondere die Frage der in der Appendix vorkommenden Tumorbildungen, über die in der wissenschaftlichen Welt noch starke Differenzen bestehen. Vor allem sind es die Tumoren epithelialer Natur, über die bisher keine Einigung erzielt ist, die in der Literatur einmal als Karzinome, als sog. primäre Karzinome, als Karzinoide usw. bezeichnet und oft als den echten Karzinomen identische Gebilde angesehen werden. Gerade hierdurch wird die Bearbeitung dieses Gegenstandes außerordentlich erschwert. Die Grundbedingung, die bei dem Studium der Appendixtumoren zu erfüllen ist, ist meines Erachtens die scharfe Trennung zwischen klinisch wie pathologisch verschiedenen Tumorarten.
