Zusammenfassung

Unter Kala-Azar verstehen wir eine meistens chronisch, manchmal akut oder subakut verlaufende, durch Leishmania donovani bedingte Allgemeinerkrankung, die durch ein hartnäckiges Fieber, einen beträchtlichen Milztumor, ferner einer Leberschwellung, Anämie, Leukopenie, oft Blutungen der Haut und Schleimhäute, gangränösen und dysenterischen Erscheinungen ausgezeichnet ist und ohne Behandlung unter den Zeichen schwerster Kachexie, eventuell durch Hinzutreten einer anderen Krankheit, besonders Noma, fast immer zum Tode führt.
