Zusammenfassung
Es kann nicht geleugnet werden, daß die Bedeutung protozoärer Erkrankungen in letzter Zeit bedeutend zugenommen hat, zumal sie keineswegs mehr auf tropische Gegenden beschränkt sind, sondern häufig auch in subtropischen Klimaten, in den Ländern am Mittelmeer, ja auch am europäischen Kontinent, ferner in England und Nordamerika wiederholt festgestellt werden konnten. Dementsprechend sind in den letzten Jahren die Forschungen über pathogene Amöben mit großem Eifer und, wie wir gleich hinzusetzen wollen, mit Erfolg aufgenommen worden und haben eine Reihe von neuen Tatsachen ergeben, die nicht bloß großes theoretisches Interesse haben, sondern auch ein erhebliche praktische Bedeutung besitzen.
