Abstract

Cataract surgery accounts for at least two million operations in western nations each year and thereby it accounts for two thirds of intraocular ophthalmic operative procedures. The relevance, therefore, of the use of viscoelastic substances in cataract surgery relates seriously to ophthalmic surgery in general. And I ask the question, why visco-surgery?
