Zusammenfassung

Unter Interferenz versteht man die Unterdrückung des Wachstums eines Virus durch ein anderes. Erscheinungen dieser Art sind im Laboratorium seit etwa 30 Jahren eingehend untersucht worden. Sie sind für den Virologen deshalb interessant, weil sie Einblicke in den Mechanismus der Virusvermehrung versprechen. Die Entdeckung des Interferons, einer Substanz, die in vielen Fällen von Interferenz eine wichtige Rolle zu spielen scheint, hat die Forschung in den letzten Jahren stark angeregt. Die Zahl der neueren Veröffentlichungen ist bereits schwer zu überblicken, und manche Arbeit läßt sich noch nicht abschließend beurteilen. Eine gewisse Subjektivität war bei der Materialauswahl für dieses Kapitel daher unvermeidlich. Die Originalliteratur ist im Lauf der Jahre mehrmals eingehend in Sammelreferaten gewürdigt worden. Die unentbehrlichsten dieser Referate sind am Anfang des Literaturverzeichnisses angeführt. Originalarbeiten werden im folgenden nur dann z tiert, wenn sie wenig bekannt, wenn ihre Ergebnisse noch umstritten, oder wenn sie historisch wichtig sind. Am Zitieren oder Weglassen einzelner Arbeiten soll kein Werturteil abgelesen werden.
