Summary

The clinical picture of the so called acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy is described by 81 reviewed cases of literature. The clinical symptomatics of the acute and later resolved lesions are discussed and demonstrated by own observations with typical fundus pictures and angiographic patterns. The association as well to other ocular inflammatory symptoms as to systemic inflammatory diseases and the typical lobular structure of the AMPPE support the hypothesis of a structure-bounded inflammatory disease of the choriocapillaris.
