We are now at the turn of the century and we should look back to what took place one hundred years ago. At the end of the nineteenth century, within a span of fifteen years, various inventions took place — the automobile, the telephone, domestic use of electricity (although electricity itself was developed earlier), the lift or elevator, cinema etc. — and a few years later the development of the aeroplane. These inventions caused discussions about future life styles in the twentieth century. Speed, mobility and everything new and innovative were the orders of the new life styles.
