Abstract
In 1986 an environmental control project was set up under the technical cooperation between the State Foundation of Environmental Engineering, the Environmental Protection Agency of the state of Rio de Janeiro (FEEMA), and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ). This project was revitalised in 1993 to include further investigations in air quality monitoring. One of the objectives of these monitoring activities was to analyse the effects of meteorological conditions on air pollution. These activities were implemented in collaboration with the Meteorological Department of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and we are presenting the first preliminary results.
