Abstract
Without doubt, the urban environment in Latin America has been a large arena for the environmental, social and economic problems experienced by the component countries for a long period in history. Taking Brazil as an example, about 75% of the population is now concentrated in urban areas. These are precisely the landscapes where the natural resources are vanishing rapidly and impoverishment of environmental quality is taking place.
