Serum tumour marker patterns, after chemotherapy for malignant germ-cell tumours, of the testis

Abstract

Alphafetoprotein (AFP) or human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) or both of these markers are elevated in the serum of approximately 80% of patients with metastatic nonseminomatous germ-cell tumours of the testis. Following chemotherapy a variety of patterns of tumour marker response may be seen (Figs. la, b & c) and these may be defined as follows.
