Litter Production in Deciduous Forest Near Udaipur (South Rajasthan), India

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Ecological Studies ((ECOLSTUD,volume 11))

Abstract

Litter on the forest floor affects the moisture status, runoff pattern, and nutritional character of the land. Yet there are few data on the annual litter production in tropical forests (Bray and Gorham, 1964). In India annual litter production in deciduous and evergreen forests has been studied by Puri (1953), Upadhyaya (1955), Singh (1968), Seth et al. (1963), and Subba Rao et al. (1972). No data are available from the semiarid region of Rajasthan.
