Abstract

Little information on root distribution and biomass in tropical rain forests is available (Bartholomew et al., 1953; Greenland and Kowal, 1960). Rodin and Bazilevich (1967) gave an average estimated biomass value of roots in tropical forests; more recently, Jenik (1971) published data on root systems observed in Ghana forests.
