Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair: Transabdominal Preperitoneal (TAPP) and Totally Extraperitoneal (TEP)

Abstract

Laparoscopic hernia repair may be performed for the same indications as conventional (anterior) repair. The role of laparoscopic inguinal hemia repair in treatment of an uncomplicated, unilateral hernia is as yet unresolved. Large, randomized, prospective trials will be needed to definitively settle the question of whether the added risks and costs are worth the benefits.
