Developmental Aspects of the Metabolism of Testosterone

Not only does the ability of androgen target cells to metabolise testosterone vary enormously, but major changes occur during foetal development (Wilson and Lasnitzki, 1971) and ageing (Gloyna and Wilson, 1969; Shimazaki et al., 1969; Wilson and Walker, 1969). Modulation of metabolism is of great signifi cance to the mechanism of action of androgens, especially from the developmental standpoint and this topic will be briefly reviewed.
