Abstract
Since the induction of enzymic activity is such a prominent feature of the early androgenic responses (see Table 10), this topic demands closer consideration. As suming that the enzyme substrates are not limiting, then the stimulation of these enzymes could be attributed to many factors: increased synthesis of enzyme moieties de novo, the enhanced assembly of preformed, stable subunits of enzymes, accelerated production of rate-limiting prosthetic groups or a reduced rate of enzyme degradation. Evidence is not available on all these points, but the detailed study by Mainwaring et al. (1974 b) on the synthesis of rat prostate aldolase is germane to enzyme induction in the widest context.
