Abstract
Most health care professionals are required by their licensing board to stay current in their field. This is done to ensure that, after completion of formal training, they will continue educational activities and improve upon their knowledge, skills, and performance. In the United States, surgeons are required to obtain credit hours in what is known as continuing medical education (CME). Typical venues that count as CME credit include attendance at national society meetings, local lectures at accredited institutions, and self-study courses.
